Which foam pads are you using? I toss em in the washer with regular detergent and they last and nothing happens to them.

If you are talking about using the foam pads for waxing on a dark-colored car, this is what I do to get rid of the dark residue left on the pads: Rinse the pads out with warm water. Pour some bleach-based liquid detergent onto the pads and repeat the rinse process. Keep doing it over and over until you get most or all of the residue out. Let the pads dry naturally.

I have used Dawn dish detergent to wash them out initally, then in the washer with any rags.
