Default Is it alright to wax the headlights?

just wondering if its actually ok to put carnauba wax over the plastic headlight covers

just to protect it a bit better and prevent oxidation

or should i be worried that it will haze?
i use collinite #476

cool thanx

so u use NXT to wax them?

another reason im asking is also because of the fuss avoiding getting wax onto light plastic covers when im waxing the car
if i dont have to avoid waxing them, thats great

You can use NXT, it does not leave white residue on the seals.

Zaino Z-2 Pro works as well but I usually just spray Plexus occasionally.

I wax the whole car always, windows and windshield and headlights and taillights everything. sometimes some brands of carnauba wax will leave a film on the glass after you wax, but if it does then you can just wipe the film away with a duster or microfiber.

waxing headlights helps protect from oxidation and water marking. Best to get a orbital buffer, polish the heck out of it and then wax it.

Head & Tail lights both get waxed. I do it mainly for the bugs that love flying into my car at night.

Default headlite fix

Guys,

This may be beneath almost all of you...but. Wifey had this vintage Subaru wagon when we took up with each other. I wouldn't buy one of those things, or so I thought. It was very rough: dented doors, dead paint, tint bleached out of the glass, ac on hte fritz, filthy and headlights SOOOO oxidized that they did not light up the road in th least. A real hazard. She doesn't drive at night so she never missed the ability to see after sunset from inside the car. Librarians, go figure.

I took 400 grit sand paper to the lens untill I no longer was generating this milky slime. I then moved to 1000 grit untill I couldn't see the 400 grit scratches. I the power buffed the lens with "Nufinish". If they were on my SC I would be shopping but they aren't. They now throw enough light for me to drive 75MPH and at least identify what I am about to hit.

Point being....these things do clean up. Please note that the lights have some sort of coating on them and that is what yellows and what you have to "sand" away.

For what its worth.

Play safe and hard.

John

Wetsanding definitely works. I use 800-->1500-->2000 grit for the job. When it's all and done, the headlights are smooth and clear. I use a rotary buffer with the 3M rubbing compound to get the light scratches from the sanding, and then finish it off with Meguiars PlastX. Of course I use different pads for polishing and finishing.
