Default Oh how very confusing this gets

I was about to clean and polish the outside of my car, so I came here for some suggestions, but now am completely lost. What are all these products that you guys talk about?
Polish
Glaze
Carnauba
LSP

I drive a BLACK 98 GS300, so if you guys would like to help me out by first letting me know what all this stuff is, and then possibly suggesting how I go about applying all of it after. Ultimately, I hope to have that beautiful showroom look. Please help a fellow Lex owner/wanna be enthusiast out. I can't stand to see my baby dirty or only temporarily cleaned.

Don't get too confused. Just forget everything and remember the easy steps:
- wash the car
- polish (or paint cleaner, or something to smooth out the clear coat; some people quickly use a clay bar because it's fast....basically, it's step2)
- wax/sealant (wax comes in either carnauba (considered "natural") or polymer/synthetic, in a paste/solid form or liquid form).

Since your car's black, swirl marks are easy to spot. They're basically fine, fine, scratches in the top clear coating of your paint. Try not to mix rags/buffing pads, don't use a cloth that has been dropped on the floor and there's certain material (i.e. microfiber) that'll help prevent scratches. The rest is technique.

If you have time (lots of it), you can read and follow the extended steps in Guitarman's sticky thread about detailing guidelines

1. Polish = Deep Cleaning your vehicle, takes off old wax/protectants (Like wiping the board off in school...leaves you with a fresh start)

2. Glaze = Wettens the appearance of the paint and disguises (minimizes the appearance of) minor flaws....(Consider this stuff Make-up for cars)....AWESOME ON RED,BLACK, DARKER COLORS!!...even if you don't have anything to hide!

3. Protectant/Wax = Protectants are synthetic....Waxes are made from Brazillian Carnuba and natural products.....Synthetics last longer and have mirror-like reflection......Waxes don't last as long but have a awesome Gloss / wet appearance....

...and that's all I have to say about that...."

So during the polish stage,
should I do scratch removal with fine cuting pad first, then polish it after?

To remove swirl marks, will Scratch-X or M#80 do the job?
Is there any special technique to use oil base M7 during polish?

Can you guys recommend some of the cutting/polish/finish pad?
thanks
