Hmmm, maybe as a detailer I have a different idea what a good paint job is. Around here a "good" paint job, meaning not a mask job, no overspray, primer up, light OP, downdraft booth, with a bake, will run ~$4-$6k. You can find jobs less expensive than that, but odds are good there will be thin spots, maybe some runs, some solvent bubbles, maybe some excessive OP on curves, it might not be baked, it might have overspray, etc. If you can live with a little extra orange peel and maybe 3-5 runs, and perhaps some overspray in the fenderwells or whatever, you can probably get away with ~3k.
For a "killer" paint job, $10k+. Obviously that's only done on classics, high end cars, etc.

Before you get a paint job for $2,500 or less range ask to see some of their work that is 2 or 3 years old and you will see what you are really buying. I paid $5K but had some minor repair done on the front bumper and replaced some trim. This was from a guy that has done some custom work for some of the country music stars (Alan Jackson is a car buff) and he added some extra metallic flake in my silver. The bottom line is that even if you get a "good" paint job you are still going to get what you pay for.
