Default Wax or polish?

Whats the difference between wax and polish? Do I wax my car then polish it or polish it then wax? Should I do either to my new ES350? Thanks.
My color is SGM with Black

There are two different types of polish. One is an abrasive product for removing blemishes and swirls from the paint while the other is a pure polish a.k.a. glaze that adds gloss and fills minor swirls. I'd suggest that on a new car neither is needed but the pure polish might add a bit of shine.

The same can be said for a wax. There are waxes that are really cleaner/wax combo products containing some abrasive polish and then there are pure waxes that contain no paint cleaners. Either type of waxes can contain carnauba wax or polymer sealants or some combinations of both.

Wax typically always follows polish.

For a new car I'd concentrate on developing good technique in washing and drying, especially with black paint, to avoid the need for abrasive polishes. I'd probably buy a clay kit and after washing the car I'd clay it then apply the wax of your choice.

You probably could use clay once or twice a year depending on your environment.
