Default Musty smell from air conditioner...

...especially with just the fan on with air recirculate, after having the AC on.

What's the best way to get rid of this? I've tried Lysol disinfectant aerosol spray and it just came back after a few days. Changed the AC filter too.

I know the "ounce of prevention." I now need the "pound of cure."

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Try running the air at "high heat for about 8-10 minutes with the outside air button pushed. This should clean out that "close to urine smell" that the air conditioner sometimes provides. If you need to, lower the windows so that you do not overheat yourself.

I've also tried the lysol thing, spraying the inside with some soap and simplegreen, turning the heat up all the way baking the AC system, none of those had a long term effect, the smell usually came back within a day or two. I have heard about having the car ozoned though, professionally by a shop with special equipment. Everyone says they have a musty odor, but i know the previous owner of my car was a nasty smoker, who smoked with the windows closed....i can tell because when i got the car, most of the absorbing foam behind the exit ducts was flying out the cracks. Any idea if doing an ozone clean would get rid of that nasty odor?
