Angry My 2IS got egged last nite . . .

Sometime on my commute home last night, some punk egged my IS. Problem is, I didn't notice it until this morning. The egg hit the lower portion of the front passenger door, near the side skirt. I hosed off what I could, then took it to a hand carwash. Looks like I got most of the yolk and such off, but the paint on the door where the egg hit is compromised. Hard to describe, but the paint is chipped in several places around the impact. Short of repainting the area, any thoughts on how to address this damage ???

Your paint is probably gone in those areas. Egg shells really screw up paint, unfortunately. When eggs hit cars, they leave a radial pattern of knicks in the paint as the egg "collapses" into the car.

It's beyond me how it's funny at all for someone to do something like this...it's vandalism, and is no better than keying someone's car.

Some kids hit my Sti in my driveway right after I bought it. They hit is so hard it left a oval mark on my trunk under the wing. The oval was a ton of deap paint chips. Was there the entire 2 years I had it.

I would ask Guitarman, he is very knowledgeble about this kind of stuff. I would think a little touchup on any parts that are chipped and a Porter Cable with a quality polish would solve your problem but you need to post some pics so we can see the extent of the damage.

The time factor here is CRITICAL. Even minutes matter. Of course, we have often little control of getting to the car immediately after.

Make sure you wipe the affected areas with iso alcohol to dry out the acid remains, sometimes water is not enough to stop the acid etching.

Can you post pics of the remaining damage?

Acid etching SHOULDN'T be a major problem with his paint as long as you have had the paint waxed/maintained. The egg will leave some etching which will buff out easily However, i think the impact of the shells actually chipped off some paint which will need to be repainted.

About two years ago, my friend got her bimmer egged on the hood.

The egg, cooked by the SoCal sun, came out pretty nicely...and also pretty much took off the paint of the impact area .

It sucks that you got egged, but at least it wasn't on an important part of the car.

When is an egg thrown at a car by accident???

"Oh sorry dude, I was walking by your car and the egg I happened to have in my hand accidently flew out of my hand and hit your car"....

That's what I call a high "steaks" food fight!...pardon moi for the little pun there!

FWIW, there isn't a wax out there that will be a panacea for biologic acids such as this. Maybe it will buy time, but no wax or sealant can fight off acids.

I don't think anyone here wants to take that risk by testing this out.

The shells do a lot of damage too, yes, but if the yokes sit unattended, they will etch the clear greatly.

That said, wax/ sealant is your first line of defense, and something is better than nothing.

Seems like a lot of new cars have to go through this Egg initiation. Mine was hit last April. A few paint chips on the bumper.
