I use the Pinnacle XMT-series pad cleaner and conditioner.

The cleaner works very well and requires only a few sprays. It was able to make the pad feel new again.

For me, I use household liquid detergent and if necessary, a little bleach. I hand-wash the pads, no machine wash.

Toss them in a front loader with some Tide HE. Warm wash cold rinse. Take them out and put them in open ziploc bags to dry.

I fill up a small wash bucket with hot water and some liquid detergent or woolite and soak the pads in it. If i'm doing 1 or 2 pads i'll just fill up the bathroom sink. Once the water gets cold I rinse them thoroughly in the sink and leave them on the bathroom counter to dry.

You're not SOL. A front load washer isn't necessary. lol.

What I use to do was get a bucket and fill it up half way with warm water and add some liquid detergent in it. Then I would pour hot boiling water until the bucket was full and let it soak until the water became warm again.

Then throw it in the washer. Use liquid detergent only. Do not use bleach or fabric softener either.
