NEED HELP: How to get wax off exterior trim & roof rack?
A few months ago, before waxing my '04 RX330, I called the dealership and asked how to clean the black exterior trim. I was told "wax", and when I replied "Even the trim & the roof rack??," he said yes. This man didn't speak very good English so I'm now assuming he didn't understand my question.
Unfortunately, I followed his advice and used wax on both the black plastic-y trim that runs along the bottom of my doors and the top of the back bumber, and also on the roof rack. It left these areas hazy and dull. I tried rubbing them with Amorall Cleaning Wipes several times, but that only fixed the problems temporarily.
Can anyone tell me how to A. Remove the wax haze and B. Get those areas restored to good condition again???
THANK YOU!!!

Hmmm, thats kinda of hard
Just try scrubbing the areas with dishwashing soap like dawn since dawn removes wax from paint, it should remove any from the plastic.
As for the fading, you can't really get rid of that permanently. Once i month, after a wash, i apply a new coat of armorall protectant (not the cleaning wipes), Or turtle wax 2001 protectant (which i found less greasy and lasted longer).
As for cleaning the trim... Just wash it like the rest of the car lol.

Try smooth peanut butter, seriously.
It is non toxic, won't damage plastic trim, removes wax and even smells nice when you are applying it. Be careful if you have a nut allergy but other than that it is very good. The oils even make faded plastics look slightly darker.
And every one has that old jar of peanut butter at the back of the fridge.

Keep the peanut butter on the bread.
Any degreaser will work. If you're in the mood to buy something for the shelf, I highly recommend Wax Blaster. It's awesome - mild, yet strong enough for this job. The bottle also has a sponge applicator built-in. Do not use something strong, a la 3M adhesive & wax remover. That will remove the wax, but also any plastic dye along with it. You definitely want to stay mild on this one.
Otherwise, just take some QD spray, or even a mild solution of car wash shampoo and a nylon detailing brush. A bit of patience and the wax residue will be gone. And never ask a dealer for detailing advice.
