Invest in a clay bar kit. You can find Mothers brand at your local parts store. Unless we actually see the condition of your paint, it's hard to recommend something. Different cars/condition needs different products/techniques.

Agreed - good advice above. But you can count on those bird droppings having been etched into the paint. Which means definite machine polishing to level the clearcoat. Give it a good wash and a thorough clay treatment, and if you can, share some pics after that...

1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Polish
4. Wax

The clay and polish steps will bring the paint back to life. You will have the most success with the polish stage with a PC or rotary as opposed to doing it by hand.

Why not share some before and after pics. Get some sun reflection shots off the hood and see how the swirls disappear after you polish.

Like GSteg mentioned, wash, then do a clay. The clay should take care of the "specks" and give you a better idea of what the paint looks like. Take some pics in the bright sun or under some lights to reveal all its imperfections.

Post some pics here and let us chime in with some suggestions. Do you have a orbital polisher or rotary buffer? What color is the car?
