Default Washing car after purchase

Dealer said to not wax the car the first 3 months. Is this true? Today I just washed my new IS (no wax, just soap). So far it's been 2 weeks... IS there anything i should be worried about?

It's only true if the car has had some damage and been repainted. Factory paint is ready to wax the day you get it. You might want to ask your dealership if the car was repaired prior to your receiving it. Be aware that they are not required to tell you this prior to purchase.

Nothing....other than bad advice...to be worried about. As Jim mentioned, it's a good idea to confirm the details of the paint work, but beyond that the last thing I'd expect from any dealer is good detailing advice.

What is it about a repair-paint job that does not allow waxing only after 3 months. My CRV went to the shop for a fender repair and was told that waxing is not allowed within 3 months. Curing of the paint?

That's it exactly. Well, that and the same old recommendations being made in spite of changes in technology and practices. My local shop, as with many others these days, bakes the paint for quite a while and even applies a coat of wax before returning the car to the owner. They state that the paint is 95% cured and can be waxed by hand in two weeks.

In the case of a new car, it's always worth a peek at the build date just to make sure, but if a boat is used in transporting the vehicle you can rest assured the paint is cured by the time the contract is signed.

I waxed my new car the first day I drove it home.
It's time for you to put a nice wax on that puppy.
Happy waxing....

My neighbor detailed each of his cars the day he got them. Its nothing big, they still look like new too and they were brand new like 7 years ago...

Go crazy man, its not like the car is freshly made or anything by the time you buy it haha
