Thumbs down Yellowing Headlights

The headlights on my 93 SC400 are clouded and yellowing.. I do not get condesnation inside, so I don't think that's the problem.. Has anyone ever cleaned the outside of their headlights?? What should I use?

Also, I AM getting condensation in one of my tail lights.. anyone fixed one of those?

I have the same problem. It seems that the plexiglass headlight covers get abraded and stained from exposure. If I were more concerned about the optics of the lens, I would try to rub it out with jeweler's rouge which I have heard is effective on old car windshields that are scratched. However, I don't think that the headlight covers need to be optically precise, just clear. I'm going to try polishing the covers with a thin paste of water and either baking soda or Comet. Baking soda would be more gentle, but I don't have any, and I do have Comet so you can pretty much figure how this is going to come out. I'll let you know if it works.

I had the same problem, one side was perfect and one was yellow. Use Meguairs step one (removes oxidation) and clean your headlight with that. No more yellow.

I used 2000 grit wet sand paper, but you do make
really deep scratches. it's normal, dont worry.
then I used Novus heavy scratch remover, ordered from http://www.airsource1.com/catalog.cg...LISH-CLEANERS, they had Novus Polish Sampler #s 1,2,3(smaller size) and my headlight cover look like new again. I guess you can use any compund/polish

if that doesn't work, try http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/headlights/index.html, clean up from inside the lens.
good luck

Default www.kitwax.com

After reading through forums, took a trip to WalMart, planned to buy Meguiar's but found a product called Scratch Out by Kit. For only a $1.77 I didn't think I could go wrong. 10 years of yellowing dissappeared within moments of using this product just as I would a traditional wax product on the paint finish.

This is perhaps the most common question on car website BBS's, I see it all the time, and there are 100 different approches which all seemingly work. The reason for that is that most automotive headlight lens' are made of Lexan plastic or a similar plastic. Being that car paint today is acrylic urethane enamel, itself a form of plastic, the same processes and materials needed to remove oxidation on paint will work on clear headlight lens'.

The one common theme in this is that they all respond to abrasives of one grit or another, so either a polish, a rubbing compound or fine grit wet sandpaper, in combination or individually, will work wonders.

Cheers.
