Reupholstering leather?
Hey guys, I have a few questions about my car's interior. The leather is pretty torn up on the front two seats and it's really bugging me. I know I could drop $700+ on a full interior kit, but that is way out of my price range, especially considering what I paid for my car. So now I'm looking at alternatives...
First, how much would an average place charge to get the front two seats reupholstered?
Second, how hard is it to just reupholster them myself? Where would I buy the leather? Would I have to dye it? Do they sell special automotive leather ready to go? Would I have to do anything to it to get the "finish"?
And how much would the leather run me if I did decide to do it myself?

Its a pretty tough project to take on. You could try local upholstery shops that might do it for you, but it wont be significantly cheaper than the $700 kit online. I have one of the Leatherseats.com kits in my LS400, and I am SO glad thought I bought it.. honestly makes the car feel like new. Regarding to what you paid for the car.. don't worry.. you're driving one of the most reliable vehicles out there, it will last you!

When I purchased my kit from LeatherSeats.com I ended up selling my old leather (which was in pretty decent shape) for next to nothing. You might see if someone has the same model as you with decent leather that they are replacing. I am sure they would be willing to sell it to you at a good price.
The trouble with replacing front only or rear only is that it is impossible to get the leather to match in color unless they have the same amount of wear and tear, conditioning, and exposure.
