Default Polisher (Waxer) recommendations?

Hi~

I'm in the market for a good polisher for my RX350. I'm looking for at least a 7" polisher with adjustable speed control.

What product or brand do you guys use and what other stuff should I consider before buying?

Thanks in advace~

I can highly recommend the Porter-Cable 7224 or 7336. It is probably the most popular product for polishing. Mine is 12 years old and it's never missed a beat. Lots of pad and polish options. It is very good at polishing and it is very forgiving. You really can't damage your paint with these polishers as opposed to a rotary.

+1 for the PC. I use the 7424. I have had mine for 4 years and works good as day one.

Proper pad selection is important too.

I use these guys because they are local to me. You can also call them and tell them what you are trying to do and they will be happy to take the time to run through some of the differences.

Check out their Blackfire white diamond carnuba and the Menzerna FMJ. Makes my Obsidian pop!

Ultimate Detailing Machine (UDM). More torque, more power, more correction ability. Only about $20 more than a brand new PC. Porter Cable has actually discontinued the 7336/7424 models.

I personally use a Festool Rotex RO150FEQ polisher.

Coastal Tool is selling the 7424 for $99 now. Great price, IMO.

You'll need a couple of polishing pads and finishing pads.

Meguiars, 8006 and 9006 are good as are Lake Country white and grey. Actually AutoGeek has put together a pretty nice kit here:

Be sure to check out the videos in this link as well.

If your car is new and no signs of scratches or swirls, I'd also go for the Autogeek package. If you have scratches/swirls, I'd go for PC/XMT kit or UDM/XMT kit from Autogeek.

Autogeek does a good job in putting together these kits. What year and color is your RX? Does it need paint correction or are you just looking for the PC for maintenance?

Just a warning... don't waste your money on those cheap "waxer" products. They don't have the power to polish paint. Get a quality tool.

Not really, the cheap pads get torn up and may cause damage to your paint. While the pads are expensive thy will last for many uses. Just like the PC. You pay for quality tools once, you pay for junk many times.

...and don't forget to get the Porter Cable backing plate, it is the best because of the holes to keep heat from building up.
