Default Help cleaning baked on dirt...

Hi all,

About 3 weeks ago there was a very light drizzle that was nice enought to allow every little speck of dirt to stick to my black IS350. Anyways, I went off on a biz trip and didn't get to wash it till just today. Between that time, I drove to the office 3 times and left the car in the sun all day.

After washing it, it looks clean from far, but when you put your nose to it and look closely, there are "stains". It seems like the dirt was baked on (if that's possible). I washed it again and the stains are still there. The paint also feels slightly rough and not mirror smooth.

Any way for me to get it off myself - ie claying? I'm sure a professional detail will work but wanted to see if there's anything I can do easily. Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

same thing happen to my uncles RX350 when he forgot about it for a year LOL. we washed it the first time n it didnt come off. Then we washed, clay, and wax. Took off mostly everything. But some of the stuff ate through the clear coat. I think yours should be fine though since its only 3 days.

Wash
Clay
Wax

If you want a really nice wax for your car, I'd suggest Swissvax products. not the cheapest, but unbelievable results. Here's a Black IS that I just did. Basically did the above steps, except I added some Cleaner Fluid before the Swissvax Concorso wax. A good replacement to Concorso would probably be Onyx.

Just don't forget to clay. That's the most important part to a smooth finish.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't sure if the claying would get rid of the baked on dirt remnants, but it looks like it will.

Last question... Can I do more harm than good since I'm a noob claying?? I am a bit afraid of claying... I've read on how to do it - it seems simple enough, but can i do more harm than good? Is it as simple and easy as it seems?

Thanks again for the help.

Clay is not harmful. Just keep the paint wet and well lubed. If it gets stuck and leaves a mark, just go over it again until the mark is cleaned up.
