Default NXT 1.0 vs NXT 2.0 -- Quick question.

Heya,..

I claybarred and waxed my LS 400 with NXT 1.0 (paste in the can) about two weeks ago. I was very pleased, but heard so much about NXT 2.0, I decided I would give it a go.

Today I washed the car, (didn't clay bar because it was obviously not needed).. and proceeded to use ample supply of the NXT 2.0. I let the NXT 2.0 sit on the vehicle for 2 hours or so while I was detailing the interior (just took me that long is all.. ).

Here is the deal.

Car looks great.

However, the NXT 2.0 looks exactly the same in shine/gloss/depth as the 1.0 did. I like it, but cannot tell any difference in looks.

However.. -- The NXT 2.0 has made the car even 'smoother' *to the touch* by a noticeable margin than the NXT 1.0 did. The 1.0 did a great job, so I am impressed with this.

So my question is:

Since these are technically sealant waxes.. Is it possible, or even likely, that the car will look better in 24 hours than it does now,.. thus trumping the NXT 1.0? Or , in my case, is the 2.0 going to simply be the same 'gloss/shine/depth' of the 1.0 ?

Either way I am happy, I was just hoping for a bit of an edge with the newer product.

Thanks!

As I replied to Bigdan -- I did not have to wax this time. I wanted to 'try' the NXT 2.0 from the reviews.

Also posting here and on Autopia isn't some faux pas

I asked this on Autopia as well.. (covering my bases so I won't be quoted)

What do you think about the supposed 'cure time' on the NXT? Can you really tell a difference 24 hours later personally? Or is it more like.. mehh, looks about the same as when I took it off.

"Wanted to try the NXT 2.0 from the reviews", did ya? Sounds to me like just another excuse to get your MF towels all over that LS again! You even feel a bit guilty about it so you sometimes do it under the cover of darkness....we've seen the pics so you needn't deny it.
Ok, let's be honest now. We all know you're a detailing maniac (not that there's anything wrong with that) so tell the truth. You'd be out there rewaxing every two weeks anyways, even if the product you used is supposed to last 3 months! hahaha!....I know cuz I'm the same way!

Where do we sign up for the W.A. (Waxaholics Anonymous) support group?? It's an illness, but we're hoping there's no cure!

Sigh.. Busted! Heh.. No really I did , honestly, want to try out the NXT 2.0.. BUT, if the NXT 2.0 didn't exist, or wasn't in my possession, or I was just flat broke etc.. I would still, yes, have waxxed it again with NXT 1.0. -- I've just broken down and bought new Microfiber towels for every wax. Cleaning them is a waste,.. never turns out right for one reason or another.

So a wash and wax costs me about 5 bucks,.. (buy an 8 pack of MF for like 5$).

Haha.. I don't feel guilty about it. Maybe a little paranoid about it sometimes,.. but not much. Like I bet these neighbors think I'm insane for spending so much time on this car. -- And, I guess I am. So what,.. its good for you, it is exercise , and it keeps an investment in good shape. Win - Win situation.

Yesterday, I started about 3pm -- even with the time change I still didn't finish till 8pm. Originally I had planned to Wash the car yesterday, park it in garage and wax it today. But, nope,.. I washed it allright. Then looked at her, and said hrmm.. lol. That was all she wrote.

Why do I have to WAX the dang thing everytime I wash it? -- It is like it doesn't look quite as good as a fresh wax after a wash, so I have to wax it to get the look I want all the time.

I am now.. yes,.. With my previous car -- I didn't touch it, not at ALL. -- I wasn't even this bad on my previously owned 'nice' cars. I feel I am just more educated now on detailing procedures, oh and have more money these days than I used to.

I've probably spent 250-300$ on Detailing products alone since I got the car last month. My garage has 23 different type of sprays/wax's/QD's/Scratch removers , tire gel/armor all, glass cleaner and on and on and on and on.. I don't have any shelves up now.. so It looks rather funny. Sort of like you are pulling into a Detail shop

When I was washing the car Water beaded INSANELY. Almost too much. I had Rain-x on all the windows as well,.. which beads like hell.

So I am attempting to wet down the car to prepare for a wash, and no water sticks to it! ACK.. lol.

Even after I washed it,.. rinsing was hilarious,.. the water stuck a little better.. but it was still beading.

I also purchased a California water blade -- like 18 bucks or something, but very handy for drying. I used that sucker and then what little dampness remained I used a Microfiber drying towel and it worked perfectly.

*I highly recommend the Water Blade*

Hrmm.. Autopia doesn't have any links I've looked -- They are part of the drug dealers anyway.. hehe.

If we signed up we would just end up exchanging ideas on products and methods in the meetings.. worse off than we are now. Grin.

I'm gonna hunt some batteries down for my Camera and take some pictures of the new wax job.. Maybe change the avatar again, since the windows are tinted now.

Though it pretty much looks the same as the last wax job did to me. Though remember, I didn't wax the newly painted panels.. I'm going to put it out in the sun now and get a good look at it to see if those panels stick out like a sore thumb or not.

Took some pictures in the sun today -- Not real sure if there is any improvement from NXT 1, to 2. But this is about as good as it is going to look by hand imho. If it were black I'm sure people would 'oo and ahh'.. but on such a color it isn't easy to get the 'mirror' effect,.. Actually not possible Though it does reflect and show anything around it, just not to the degree the color black does.

Mostly same angle pictures,.. just took a few to get the different light.

Also shows the tint job. I'm proud, though I think the Meguires tire gel I used isn't that great. They could look better imo.

This time around I waxed the wheels as well,.. we shall see if that attracts dust or repels. =)

That is one very nice (and clean) looking LS400!! And loving the tint!! It really makes a huge difference to the overall look.

Maybe you should change your CL name to: TeflonLS. Since it's got so many layers of sealant/wax on it now, nothing sticks to it.

Thanks Lexucan! It certainly has gotten its fair share of love. Five hours yesterday, and that is what I consider a quick job hehe...

Thanks on the tint compliment,.. I think so too. It did a better job of 'sprucing' it up than I originally anticipated. The tint makes it look more youthful, newer, and makes the paint 'pop' with the contrast more than before.

Now that I got the front strip done 'properly' .. or more so to my taste -- It looks right. Not sure if you saw my tint thread with the 'other' front strip that made it look ghetto/cheap to me. (Where the sides curve downwards) -- This curved up strip looks more 'oem' and fits the luxury style better, and is almost an optical illusion as on this window you have to curve the strip to make it appear 'flat'.

Heh, TeflonLS -- Why not? I only use neofate because that is a FPS name I used many years ago and have stuck with it as an alias ever since..

But, yup,.. Had the car a touch over a month now, and it has been waxxed 3 times.. lol.

1st time: Meguires Carnuba (number something)

2nd time: Clay bared, and waxed with NXT 1.0 (~2 weeks ago)

3rd time: Washed with Meg. Crystal, slightly clayed, then good application of NXT 2.0. (Let sit for hours before removal).

So yes, it does have at least some mixture of 1.0 and 2.0 on it.. The Carnuba is most likely 99% gone.. due to the 4-5hour Clayjob I did on all body panels before second wax job. (Car really needed the lengthy claybar treatment) -- And I don't think I will need to bar it again till next year.

You are right, I keep the seal/wax on there -- I am not ashamed or embarassed either. It is protected and I like the fresh wax look, knowing it is as good as I can get it by hand, and feeling it now how smooth it is. The 2.0 is definitely a better bond than the 1.0 -- It feels twice as smooth as the 1.0 did,.. and that was VERY smooth. Now it feels like I am rubbing across silk. The typical, drop a shirt on the hood and it slides off.. Don't even think about sitting on the car, or you'll fall on your back in a hurry.

All part of my security system you see..

Only difference this time is I cleaned the wheels with some foaming meg's wheel cleaner, and wiped down with a microfiber. Then I applied wax NXT 2.0 -- and removed. Not that much shinier, but they are smooth like the car now.. so maybe the brake dust will either not stick as easily, or at least come off very very easily now. (Think the NXT 2.0 on the wheels will keep the brake dust from building as quickly?) Be nice to get the front wheels to act like the rears do hehe.. *I know that isn't possible because the fronts do so much of the braking, but still*

I stuck it outside today to help cure the product (not sure if it even makes a difference) -- Help the new paint cure,.. and let the tint cure.

Have two appointments left in my arsenal atm.

Friday at Noon: Leather specialist is to repair a 2 inch razorblade cut in the side of the passenger seat. ($85 ) -- Being paid for by the shop who did the damage. While he is at it, he said for $25 he would use the dye he had mixed up to touch up any and all scratches/spots in the leather across the car .. So that will be nice. There are a few scuff marks that I would not otherwise have bothered with, but since a pro will be in there anyway, why not.

Then..

B) Mon-Tues mechanic who sold me the car is putting on a Toyota new Power Steering pump that, oddly enough, includes a new reservoir!

When that is done,.. All I have left restoration wise is to replace the three lights that are slightly cracked. (So slight it is hard to spot) -- The rear pass. outer taillight is the worst one of the three, and the one I am trying to get for $50.00 or less. Trying not to spend $100+ for just that one little piece used. I think I can eventually come across someone parting out who will sell it to me for $50.00.

I do need to take the car to a good 'background' location soon and take some pictures -- Instead of them all being in my driveway.

Again, thank you, means alot .
