Default Watering the engine bay?

Okay, so I know some guys on different forums, but they don't specialize in auto detailing like them Lexus detailers here . Anyways, so they said I can water my whole engine bay as long as I cover up the distributer/spark plug wires and battery...they've done it and they said they haven't had any problems but I'm wondering if it could affect other stuff like my starter or alternator or anything...has anyone else tried it or heard stories?

I would water it down with the engine running. If you hear something funny stop spraying. I've done it with no problems yet.

+2 to Papa's statement. It also can't hurt to cover stuff up either

I've done it both ways and no problems at all

On my previous car, I would use Simple Green to loosen the dirt then hose it down.

Just be extra careful with Simple Green, Castrol SuperClean and other similar degreasers because, when sprayed on hot (even warm) METAL surfaces, it can and does discolor them. Intake mainifolds for instance.

Best to dilute them and make sure the surface isn't hot, and the product doesn't sit and dry out prior to rinsing.

They degrease well but require methodology to work safely.
