Which one? I've done IP, SIP, FPII, 106FF/FA, PowerGloss and I just received Power Finish . FMJ and FTG suck btw

For obsidian, ask Jay about it, hes the one with the progress thread here

Yep, should be up! Might have just been a fluke. Sorry about that!

No personal experience w/ Menz products, mostly b/c I havent really had the need to use them. If you're looking at alternatives, I can post some pics from others who've used Optimum & poorboys on black w/ great results.

Chris, here's a question for you:

What is your opinion on the Boar's hair wash brush vs. using a microfiber sponge? Is one better than the other, or equivalent? Thanks.

For washing? Or another use?

I personally do not like microfiber for washing. I do not think it releases dirt well at all imo. Especially on heavily soiled panels. For that reason, I prefer to use other tools here

question, (ok i've read 9 pages)
i'm planning on doing some detailing on my own and chose,
orange pad w/ polishing compound: scratch & swirl remover THEN,
white pad w/ carnauba wax.

-are we suppose to have some time gap in between the 2 jobs or we just do polish then wax right away?
-and for simply waxing purposes with white pad+wax, do you recommend using carnauba or regular wax.
-and overall, which one do you prefer using, liquid form wax or paste.

thanks for great infos.

How bad is it? I would be reluctant to use anything that could potentially change the texture (ie: 0000sw) even though I've used it on other areas. The dash, since its the most visible area, should be treated carefully.

Heres what you'll basically want to do. the orange/light cut pad can be used w/ your compounds or polishes. The white/polishing pad should be used w/ your polishes. I wouldn't apply a wax w/ this pad. If you want to use a liquid wax and apply via porter cable, I'd suggest picking up a black or blue pad to apply the wax with. Neither of these pads have any cut to them and would be better suited for this task.

You can move directly from one task to the next. ie: compound/polish/wax. there is no need to wait in between stages. The process takes long enough as is anyway

Both liquid and paste waxes are great to work with. It really comes down to personal preference when it comes to which one you'll use. What color vehicle are you working with?
If you want something more durable, you might consider a sealant. Just another option for you to think about
And fwiw, I dont have an absolute preference on liquid vs paste. There are some pastes that I like over some liquids and vice versa. ie: if i want a durable wax, I'll use collinite 845, a liquid. However, I've been using chemical guys 5050 paste wax on a lot of black vehicles recently, so I might grab that one over another paste wax.

I will try to take some pictures tonight of my dash. It is minor but it doesnt come off with a towel.

What is the easiest way to get rid of minor swirls on my car? Would clay bar work?
