Default Orange Peel

Is it normal to have orange peel a couple days after the paint drys more? It seems as though my trunk looked fine after picking it up from the shop only to notice that parts of the trunk is starting to show orange peel. Seems kind of weird to me.

While orange peel may not be avoidable without wetsanding, your situation might just be a case of the painter spraying too much paint instead of layering using a fine mist. The paint isn't able to dry fast enough so gravity will take affect.

do what? he is not talking about sags and runs,

sounds to me that there was no catalized sealer applied to old prepped surface which had sanded thru spots exposing old basecoat, the solvents from new paint has softened the exposed old basecoat which will cause the spots of orangepeel, the cheapest way to fix this is to wait a few weeks for the new paint to cure (most paint jobs take few months to fully cure, but usually after 2-3 weeks the surface is hard enough to cut and polish without die-back aka "dull")then wetsand with 1500-2000 grit and polish

I'm going thru the same process right now.

I just painted the hood and headlight covers on my 240sx and i've got the orange peel. But I had problems with the paint gun, so I'll be resanding and putting on another coat of paint.

Oh, and I did a single stage paint job.

Stefan,

I actually brought my car to another shop and he told me it wasn't orange peel, but actually die back. He said it was from improper spraying and not being baked. He told me he could fix it, but can't guarantee that he wont burn through the paint because he doesn't know how much paint was used.

in most cases there is a simple solution, just wait 2-3 weeks till solvents released and clearcoat hardens, then just wetsand and polish, usually there is no need to repaint
