Default Best sealant for the winter season?

Hey guys,

New to sealant and considering this will be the last I'll be washing/waxing the car till summer what sealant do you recommend to protect against the elements? Normally I wax twice a year, summer and winter with over the counter wax products.

Thanks!

Collinite is probably the hands down winner for winter protection:

476 will be slightly more durable.

lay down a base of OptiSeal if you'd like

+1 for Collinite!

I've been using it before the winter for years with great success!

I usually do two coats at least two weeks apart before Nov 1 and then I'm good to go til the spring.

Good Luck!

You can certainly do the OptiSeal then Wax, or you may just decide to do one of the collinites on their own.

I think you'll find that they are more durable than the megs or dg105. They're both nice products though.

Zaino AIO and a few coats of Zaino Z2 or Z5 is generally as good as it gets with sealants for looks, protection, durability, and longevity. Collinite 476 is the best wax for protection and longevity by far. Collinite 476 is one of those rare cases where even though it is a carnuba based wax it outlasts and outprotects pretty much all sealants. I have already put a base coat of Zaino AIO on my car followed by a few coats of Z2, in a few weeks I will put 2 coats of Collinite 476S for maximum winter protection and maybe a coat of Poorboys Nattys Blue for looks here and there. Jeff Werkstatt Prime and Gloss are also excellent sealants for longevity and protection.

Thanks for all the input so far. As for as washing, it will be limited but California winters are pretty mild.

I like the approach of applying two coats of a top notch sealant, 24 hours apart, then another 24 hours later adding a pure wax topper. This combo will last through even our most horrid Wisconsin winters, salt and grime. These barriers have lasted the winter even through several Laser Touchless car washes if you can't do a hand wash. After 5-6 months you should still see beading and know that the paint is protected.

My products of choice are:
Sealant NXT 2.0 or #21 2.0 (same product)
Meguiar's #16, (now discontinued in the US) or Collinite 476S or 845.

I don't think you can go wrong with Collinite, Klasse, or Zaino. All very durable and will offer some great protection through the winter.

(I just wish we had a winter in Hawaii )
