Default 5 Polish Comparo Idea/Teaser...

Figure I should post this here since this could apply to everyone here (old gurus and new)

-Idea-
Use 5 different polishes that complement one another via PC (most commonly used by beginners) to find out which cuts the best and finishes down the best. I have procured a Jaguar deck lid for this purpose alone. Pretty much, it'll be a competition of the polishes that a lot of detailers use today, with the exception of one that I threw in due to the fact that no one talks about it for some reason

Anyway, the polishes I will be testing with 4inch Lake Country pads are:
-Menzerna IP and FP II (lower end)
-Menzerna SIP and 106FF (higher end)
-Prima Swirl and Finish (odd ball lol)
-3M Pro Line
-1Z Pro Line
(I'll only use the non compound polishes of 3M and 1Z to make it fair for the others)

In this test, I will document how many passes each polish needs to make a swirl free finish and then how many passes to finish it down to a perfect finish. That should give you an idea of which one to buy along with how it looks after

Hopefully this test will not be in vain because I know that there are many types of polishes out there. If this test helps you make your decision, then I will be happy. I hope it benefits you guys as much as it does for me

Pic of the hood for you guys to see what it looks like:

How it will be divided up into sections (with 2 inch tape ):

Let me know what you guys think. I would also like to add that after this is said and done, I am also going to do a durability/looks test with the waxes I have right now since the trunk sits outside in my backyard 24/7. If you would like to add a wax for me to use, please send me a small sample bottle or container and I will decrease the area size to accommodate more waxes, otherwise its only what I have. That information will come along later

I cant wait to see your results, it will help out a lot of people. But they also need to be aware that different cars have different types of clear coat ie soft-hard. I thank you for your time to do this and document it.

IMO on average , modern OEM Lexus paint tends to be soft.

This looks interesting. I think you need to change you hot tub water too.

I don't know Eric. Prima Swirl gave SIP a run for its money on an e46 Vert I was doing so maybe it has a trick up its sleeve

+2 to hardness. I'm hoping that this Jag decklid is a perfect average paint, unlike our soft Lexus clearcoats

Even the old ones tend to be that way. Mine was perfected using the low Menz stuff haha

Meh, I have the Santa Ana winds to thank for that

I love that stuff!
I've been using it for a while now,
results speak for themselves

Orange Pad and White is all you need,
if you want to add that extra burnish gloss FPII is great!

Keep us updated

I think its a great test and always nice to see results! You're testing some great products, but also leaving some out. Obviously you can only test so many at one time. But yes, 105 is a great product worth testing since it has so many ways to use it (wool/finishing, etc), and I think the ssr lineup is also one worth testing. (from Charles' website, paintcaredetailing), heres Poorboys ssr3 followed by p085rd.

anyway, when are you planning to do the work?

Yeah, I've used it my PC before on a Jet Black BMW (if you know what kind of paint JB is, you can understand how annoying it can be lol). Worked great alongside the Prima Swirl I was using

I actually haven't been able to get it to work with my PC yet Eric. Though you got to admit, most new people here don't look at M105 right off the bat

I get great results by hand though. Its usually my test spot indicator for a potential client or friend

Well, I have to admit I'm leaving out the Meguiars line as well. I have #83 but I can't get #80 locally anymore so I'm pretty much going based off samples people are letting me have for a test like this. SIP and 106FF were the samples for this time.

I've heard great things about the PB's lineup. A forum member sent me a sample of Black Hole Glaze and it was very good stuff. I'll probably test that line up sometime in the future when I'm feeling adventurous again (and when I have more money lol)

I'm hoping to do the work within the next week/2 weeks. Hood is prepped (Dawn wash, P21S TAW wash, CG CWC wash, Clay) so its pretty much oil free save the Prima Banana Gloss I put on there temporarily for potential bird poop (sits in my side yard). I might be able to do one section tomorrow after class so that'll hopefully determine if my PC can touch this clear coat (hasn't failed me yet *knocks on wood*) so we shall see
