Looking for a detailer in SoCal
I may need a detailer soon as I am considering picking up this car. The problem it has is the clear coat is pretty dull in some areas and it has pinstripes that need to go. Right now I'm not sure if the pinstripes were painted over or what. I will get some close ups from the guy as the car is on the east coast.
Can anyone do this job? Please PM me some estimates. Thanks

if the clear coat is pretty dull, you might want to pass on the detailing and get a whole paint job. just leave it as-is, and get a whole new paint job done.
detailing a job and removing pin stripes will cost a pretty penny. I would say over $250 for that black car. Put that cash away and get a paint job that will not have clear coat failure.

Hmm I'd rather salvage the paint if possible. I don't think the damage is too bad.. just normal wear and tear.
Can anyone refer me to someone? I just want someone to send pics to and get their professional opinion
Thanks a lot!

Thanks 4ntvings for the recommendation lol. I know Long used to do it but he doesn't have a machine anymore. I haven't heard much about Henry (Gsteg) either so I couldn't throw out any names for people...

The car doesn't look too bad in the pictures, but it'd be easier to tell if the pictures were in more sun light. The front bumper looks like its the worse and would probably be easier to repaint, but most of the car looks like it should come out clean with just a detail. I've never worked on a SC before, but from my experience with most black Toyota/Lexus vehicles is that their paint tends to build up something on the surface if it isn't polished or waxed for a long period of time making the paint look very dull, kind of gray.

Long pretty much nailed it head on. Need pics of it in the sun to be sure of everything. If you can get info on whether or not the pinstripes were painted or not that would be good too. Its probably the start of some heavy oxidation on the paint that is making it look dull. Thats how it was on my ES when I first got to it. I found out that day that the "gold" I was seeing was darker than it really was lol
Try to get more pics in the sun showing the damage to the paint (bird droppings, swirls, scratches, etc)

Dullness on a single staged paint (non-clearcoated) could be fixed by some tedious wetsanding...This car for instance was very dull at first but, I went and wetsanded with 2000 grit and then 3000 grit..Came out with awesome results but only after 13 hours of rotary polishing and sanding..It can be done but you need to find the right shop or person to do it..It is not an easy task especially with black onyx..

If the pin stripe is just a sticker it won't be very hard to do, but it will be time consuming. It can be done with a razor blade if you're very careful or 3m sells a pin stripe removing tool that just attaches to a drill (Cost about $35). I've never used the 3m tool personally, but I hear it works very well.
