Default Clear coat coming off

The roof of my 1997 300 ES is peeling like a bad sunburn! The clear coat is separating from the gold colored paint. What do I do? A new paint job will easily run a couple grand. Any other suggestions?

Just respray the roof. Should only be a few hundred dollars.

I would just have the roof resprayed which should not be too much or too difficult as it is the only exposed part you really don't see too well and then a major detail including claying, polishing, and then a high quality sealant/wax like Zaino, Jeff Werkstatt, Collinite 476S, etc on the rest of the car. Your car definitely needs more protection from the elements if the clearcoat is peeling on the roof and it will be a matter of time before the clear coat peels on other parts if they are not protected right now. Unfortunately you may find after a major detail other parts of the clear need addressing but you need to find what needs addressing first and then go from there.

Once the paint or clear coat starts cracking, I think your only hope is to repaint. Make sure you go to a good, reputable place paint shop though, or else this might happen again. After the respray, normal maintenance of the paint is probably your best bet.
