I did this to mine and they turned out pretty good. Go to Walmart in the automotive section and buy some 1000 grit, 2000 grit, and 3000 grit sandpaper, Eagle One Never Dull, and a microfiber towel. Use the 1000 grit paper to remove any discoloration, then sand the tip down with the 2000 grit paper. Apply Never Dull, let it sit for a few minutes, then buff this off with the 3000 grit paper. Wipe down with the microfiber cloth.

If maintained regularly the steel wool, sand paper, chisels, etc. Should not really be needed. I have never needed more then the Never Dull.

My exhaust tips were beyond dirty, I used some Orange Citrus spray on it and that took off most of the dirt that was built on.
Followed by Mother's mag and aluminum polish and the tips look like new
