Default Polishing Headlights: UV Coating

I was thinking about giving my headlights a good polish with some PlastX on a white LC via UDM. My question is, is there a UV coating that I'll end up polishing off? My headlights aren't that bad yet, but they can be clearer. I wouldn't want them to yellow faster if there is a UV coating on the outside.

the yellowing is the uv coating thats oxidating. so with you putting plastx on it, ur just getting rid of the coating. just put some layers of wax and that'll act as the uv coating.

Just apply a wax or sealant to the lenses. I usually use optiseal fwiw. You could also polish w/ a stronger pad too if you'd like. Might make it a little easier. I've polished headlights w/ yellow and orange pads previously. Post up your results after youre done

Some people also have polished it til it is clear and unpitted to their satisfaction and have used headlight films to protect its finish

It's not yellowing. It just has some minor swirling and pitting. It's pretty clear, but it doesn't look new anymore. Still debating whether I should or not. Don't want to sacrifice the thick UV coating for a thin sealant. Might open the door for constant repolishing every few months.

I've done what you're thinking of almost a year ago and didn't notice any yellowing over a summer of driving. The Plastx is pretty mild, I wouldn't be too worried about it. Now if you're wetsanding that's gonna take all the protection off but you should be ok with the plastx.

I have used the Plastic X from Meguiars for a year already. Nothing wrong. Always garage the car at home and at work.

We use the LensSaver kit which has a UV coating at work. I'm sure you can buy it separately.
