Hi I am still new to detailing although i know how to wax.... please give me some inputs on what i should do to improve.
These are the steps i use to detail the car.

1. Wash the car using Poorboys Slick & Sud Concentrated Wash and some dish washing liquid to remove old wax.

2. Dry off using chamois and some Microfiber

3. Start Using Claybar on the car along with some quick detailer like : http://www.microfiber-products-onlin...smsuclkit.html

4. Wash the car again using Poorboys Slick & Sud Concentrated Wash.

5. Dry the car again with chamois and microfiber.

6. Use Super Swirl Removers SSR 1 / 2 Depending on your scratches...http://poorboysworld.com/super-swirl-removers.htm

7. Apply Black Hole and wipe off

8. Seal it with EX Sealant

9. Top it off with Natty's Paste Wax - Blue

This process takes about 6-7 hours.... with the help of porter cable... any specific cloths to use for the SSR? i am not sure about that i need help with that too...

I believe the sealeat is supposed to be applied before the wax?

EX sealant comes before the Nattys blue. Otherwise, take your time, and do the prep well. The best wax and sealant only looks as good as the prep work!

If you are going for durability, make sure you let the EX cure for at least 12 hours before topping it with the wax. If just for looks, you can apply the wax immediately.

okay... so i should do seal first then wax.... durability of what??? my friends usually let it cure for 5 hours.... is that good enough?

If you put sealant on, then apply wax afterward, aren't you removing the sealant also in a way? Because I don't think it would layer up.

A pure wax (one without cleaners) will layer over a sealant that has cured. I do this just before heading into the winter snow season as I won't be able to wax or seal for a few months.

During the warmer months I don't see a need. I use the wax or sealant I prefer and apply two coats for even coverage and that's it.

At some point this layering attempt reaches a point of diminishing returns.

If you live in a warmer climate layering is of little benefit, IMHO.

I use a sealant on one of my cars and a carnauba on another. I choose based on the look I'm after and the paint color. During the warmer months I typically wax every month or two.

I think you have a pretty good routine outlined. When you ask about any specific cloth for the ssr, do you mean to apply or remove? Otherwise, I think you're good to go

I'd say just rinse or wipe down each section while you are claying it.
You'll only need soap again if you let residue dry.
Especially since you're doing polish steps.

You could also skip the step to dry the car after your initial wash, and start claying on the wet surface. You don't necessarily need quick detailer as claylube, you can use car wash suds(as long as it isn't causing the clay to melt and the clay is gliding).

i usually wash it.... and since the claybar kit comes with the quick detailer so i just use it... and i have far too much QDs... i also usually do this right before winter... like around october? so i think i'll seal... 2 layers... and do 2 layers of wax????

to chris@glimmerglass... i am trying to apply SSR.... any specific cloth and to remove it as well... i am new to SSR and this fall will be the first to actually use it... i see far too much swirls.

I prefer the Elite towels when detailing. I think you'll find the ssr's are very user friendly polishes too... I cant begin to tell you how many people are satisfied w/ that lineup!

again not trying to thread jack, but can you drive your car in those 12 hours of curing? and after the 12 hours is it okay to just apply the wax if there's a bit of dust or should you do a quick rinse or something?

Yes you can drive it but you need to QD it at the very least or wash it before the second coat.

Never apply a wax or sealant to a dusty car.
