Microfiber towel quality

Microfiber towel quality
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between your ordinary autozone MF towels that go for about $13 for a 12 pack as opposed to the ones they sell on autogeek or detailers domain that go for about twice as much?
How big of a difference is there if any? I've been debating whether to get the costlier ones cause I'm just not sure whether there is any real difference?

They're thicker; more dense, and absorb much more..The "autozone specials" are good for interiors (less washes)-not as durable or absorbant. They also don't last as long. They work well as polishing towels(to remove wax) and that's about it at least from my use and experience.

Definitely a difference! The nicer towels are also tagless, reducing the chance of scratching. Also, look for banding on the edges, which cover up any rough edges from manufacturing.

I use the less expensive MF towels for my interior, wheels & tires. They come in a 12 or 24 pack from Sam's, AutoZone, etc.. I use the high end MF towels for my exterior paint only and keep the two sets separated. They last alot longer that way too. I highly recommend a quality waffleweave for your drying needs also. They are fantastic!

You are going to get various opinions from many folks.
I use the Sam's Club Workforce MF towels for everything and designate towels for different tasks. They are an 80/20 blend. They pass the "CD test" and have held up wonderfully. I have held off from the "boutique" brands. I just can't justify spending that kind of money when what I am using works well for me.
But the "autozone" brand did not work well for me.

Viking microfibers are pretty good OTC rags/towels, you can find them at some Kmarts, Walmarts, and some autostores like O'Reiley's. I have been using them and they hold up pretty well and the quality is good. The softer gray ones you get at Target are pretty good too.
