Default meguiars g110 size pads question?

Hi guys, I just picked up a Meguiars G110. I'm quite new to detailing as you can see . i've been searching the forums and looking at our forum sponsers site, but I am a bit confused on what size pads I need to buy.

I'm not sure the diameter of the pad that came with the Kit, but it measures about 5" but on the box it says 6"?

I was interested in buying Lake Country CCS pads, but I dont want to buy the wrong ones.

Am I suppose to buy 5.5" pads or 6.5" pads? I saw on our sponser sites that they offer a 6" backing plate, but i was searching CL and some vendors said you can use a 6.5" ccs pad with the meguiars out of the box backing plate? But how is that possible if my backing plate measures only 5"?

sorry for the confusion, just wanted to clarify some stuff before I order a bunch of stuff that won't work with my backing plate.

thanks for the help

the backing plate that comes with it can support up to 6.5" IIRC.

Thanks LiCelsior for your response, so does that mean I can buy both 5" pad and 6.5" pad and be okay? I was searching on CL and some vendors said the 5" is a bit better? Thanks again

You want to buy pads larger then your backing plate size. Smaller pads are better for correcting while larger pads are better for adding AIO, sealants, glazes, and waxes because they work a bigger area which means it will be quicker. The best pads to buy for correcting are 4" pads but you will need a 3.5 in backing plate, I highly recommend 4" orange pads and 3.5in backing plate if you need to correct swirls, scratches, water spots, etc as the larger pads usually will not cut it.

If the backing plate is up to 5" in size, I'd suggest the 5.5" pads. if the backing plate is larger than that, I'd say to go w/ the 6.5" pads.
