Default Cosmetic Damage - Help!

I just noticed today that there's a faint line of light brown under the gas door that I originally thought was water streak was actually minor cosmetic damage

I haven't really done any detailing or cosmetic work myself, but I'd like to somehow make this line disappear. I can feel the line (very slightly recessed) and it's definitely visible (especially now that I know it's there ...), but I'd be happy to just make the brown go away.

Any suggestion? Would clay bar work in this case?

ok now we can try to help. Is it too deep? I had a scratch like that but prob 25% of that length, all i did was lick my finger, drove it over the scratch, and then took my shirt and did circular motions like i was waxing it.

Afterwards i plan on getting scratch remover and wax to cover it up. Try that for now

Have you even tried to polish it out?

I did water + cloth before I posted, so the pictures you see are the after-shots. I don't have any real polish stuff that I have around, but I'd be happy to go shopping ...

Well, if it catches on your fingernail, it's most likely too deep to be polished out by hand. Hopefully it didn't go past the clear and into the base and can be buffed out. If it doesn't catch on your fingernail, you should be able to polish it out by hand with some aggressive compound.

So I spent 20 mins using a combination of fingernail and a cotton T-shirt, and the visible brown streak is gone!

If I look at the spot from an angle under a light source, I can still see several fine lines on the clear coat, but at least I'd have to really be looking for it to see it.

Still can't figure out where it came from, but super glad that it's gone. Thanks for everyone's suggestion!

I am a bit of a detailing freak. what you want to do is to try to get a clay bar and some solution and clay bar the streak off. If that doesnt work try rubbing compound or paint cleaner wax. All of this stuff can be purchased at you local Wal Mart.

This is assuming you get another streak or fnd that there is a little left. I am pretty sure that the fingernail/cotton T shirt left swirls and scratches in you clear coat, but you car is white so you will probably never notice.

If you have a white car you really should have a clay bar

I'm glad to hear that you managed to remove the streak! You may want to consider going over the area, (if not the whole car), with some P21s Paintwork Cleanser. The stuff is fantastic and really brings some life back to paint if you havent had the chance to use a paint cleaner or polish previously
