Default Making lighter colored paints POP!!!

Lighter colored vehicles are often very difficult to achieve a very deep wet gloss like jet black can produce. Todd defies the odds during this detail by making SGM look dripping wet. Read the entire BMW M3 article and detailed information here.

Some teaser shots:

Thanks for looking!

Amazing detail yet again can someone explain what "hologram" is referring to in this article?

when you look at the before shots on the hood... near the top where the windshield is, you will see what looks to be like a hologram... where there is defects that cause different color light to show to your eye...

Holy smokes... can results like this be done without an electric buffer? I mean just by hand using Karate Kid style wax-on wax-off?

A hologram is basically when you use a buffer and polish the surface and you create too much heat. The heat then distorts the clear coat so the reflection is not as direct as it should be. It's far short of burning the paint but it can be a pain to remove.

Generally speaking you will need a buffer to get these kinds of results. A buffer is necessary to work in the polish and remove the imperfections on the surface. Polishing is arguably the most important step in the process. Using a glaze, sealant or wax by hand is very comparable though.

It's not easy but it can certainly be done with a good detailing combo. Here is a sample detailing process I do to restore white paint and make it look extra glossy.

Wash/Dry
Clay Bar - DI Gentle and Fine Clay Bar and Chemical Guys Luber
Polishes - (Medium and Light) Menzerna PO83 and Menzerna PO106FA
Sealant - Chemical Guys Jetseal 109
Wax - Dodo Juice Diamond White Paste Wax

Let me know if you would like me to help you develop a routine for you. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for your kind service Greg,

I've always waxed the car by hand and never have used a buffer.

I've used mcguires products such as clay bar kit, NX2 wax, and thats it. I've never used a sealant before. Just by hand the diamond white pearl paint is pretty impressive. The shine is incrediable. I'm sure if i used a buffer I could get better results.

The wax I was referring to is the Dodo Juice Diamond White Hard Wax. It was specifically designed to really enhance the gloss of lighter colored paints like white, silver, etc. It applies with ease and looks exceptional after just one coat. You can buy the large 250ml size (approx 8.5 oz) or try the panel pot (30ml) which gets you about 3 - 5 details. Let me know if you have any questions about this product or any of the other products I listed above. If you would like more suggestion please just let me know more about your individual goals for the detail (shine, protection, ease of use, time, budget, etc.).
