Default Fix a leather scar/rip/scratch

I'm not sure what to call it.

I have a question about my leather seats...I don't know how this happened but it looks like when someone got out of the seat something sharp marred the leather. It didn't poke a hole all the way or cut the leather through but did scar the leather. It isn't a rip but looks like the the paint and the coatings on the leather was damaged. If I run my finger down the "scratch" I can't even feel it. If I run it the other way it feels all jagged.

Is there any way to fix this or am I SOL?
Sorry for the poor quality picture.

That can be fixed easily. Find a reputable leather repair company that specializes in automotive leather. That area can be redyed and sealed and no one would be the wiser. In the meantime, and proper leather conditioner should minimize the appearance of the scuff.

How much would something like this cost to repair? Is there something I could do to fix this myself?

What do you recommend for leather conditioner? I have some Meguiar's Gold Class rich leather cleaner/conditioner but I HATE the stuff. It gets in the perforations of the seats and it annoys the hell out of me.

I did some reading on this board and got some Meguiar's Vinyl and Rubber cleaner/conditioner (40). I have gotten some of this stuff on the leather seats could this damage the leather (not much just a wet rag of it laying on it)? I just get worried to hell and back about putting something on some type of material that won't mix and will ruin it.

Thanks in advance.

My favorite leather conditioner is Swissvax Leather Milk. It's a very rich formula and has lots of essential oils that penetrate the hide. It leaves a nice satin sheen behind that's not greasy. It will not clog the perforated holes in the seats. Just make sure to use our Red CCS Foam applicator.

Your leather is coated with a urethane coating. What it looks like from your photos is some of that coating is scratched off. You can live with it and perhaps reduce the appearance somewhat with a leather protectant. The area will get progressively worse over time however. Another alternative is to see a leather specialist who can re-coat the area and permanently repair the damage. My guess is that the repair would run around $50-$75.

Are there any chain leather repair shops that you would recommend or would you recommend just looking in the yellow pages for a mom and pop leather repair shop?

Edit: While googling around for repair shops I saw this stuff. http://www.leatherrepairkits.com/ is it any good? If I can find a repair shop I would take it to them as this is basically the same price as what you estimated.

Ask a couple of car dealerships who they recommend. You can also go to a high class leather furniture store and ask who they use for leather repair in your area. These techs are usually really good at matching color and texture to make the repair invisible.

The DIY kits are not great for first time repair attempts. It takes a bit of skill to make a permanent repair. Color matching is also very difficult to the untrained eye. Besides color, your finish sheen must match too. Cant be too dull or too shiny and the texture doesn't happen all by itself. I'd recommend getting a couple quotes from a person who does this for a living.
