i would rather leave my car dirty than clean it with only water. Soap suds help prevent scratching the clear coat of your car but provided a layer between your cleaning towel/wash mitt and the actual dirt. water alone will get you the fancy swirl marks everyone around here hates

I use ONR only if my car is lightly dirty....if it's heavy dirt, forget it, I use car soap and go to the 'pay and spray' since my condo doesn't permit car washing.

ONR is cool, but if I were back in New England with road salt and all that ish, I don't think I'd rely on the ONR.
