Default PLEASE HELP - Scratch on My Brand New RX350

I've only had my car for two weeks and I could kill myself for putting a deep scratch in my rear bumper. Can you please tell me if a detailing specialist would be able to smooth it out. I lifted a large item outlined with metal into my cargo area and I didn't lift it high enough and dragged it up along my rear bumper. It's only about a 1/2" long and very thin. The paint looks like it was pushed into one area and is shriveled with black showing beneath it.

I was hoping the Lexus dealership would be able to smooth it out when I go back for my 1,000 mile check-up, but I'm anxious to know before I go back. I pray they don't tell me the entire bumper will need to be re-painted just for this tiny spot that's driving me crazy.

My excitement for my new car has just been taken down several notches

Sorry to hear....we did a similar thing to our new Cayenne, and I just about kick my own butt From what you have described, specially when you mentioned black showing through, you will need a professional body to shop to repair that area properly. You may be able to get by with just some touch up paint to conceal the black area and maybe polish the rest, but if you're a perfectionist, I'm afraid a repaint is in order as you won't be able to fill in the areas of removed plastic. You may also want to post up a picture to help further diagnosis.

So I took my car to the dealership and showed them the scratch. They seem to believe it needs to be fixed by a body shop because the paint is chipped away with the black showing beneath. I have an appointment for their body repair people to give me an estimate.

My question is, since this is a tiny, tiny spot on the bumper, can they just touch up and repair the scratch without having to repaint the entire bumper. I'd hate to start having my brand new car painted if not necessary. I'm so worried that the color will not match. What should I be prepared to hear from them and how much do you think it will cost?

(I know a picture would be helpul, but I just haven't had a chance)

In my experience, touchup paint can conceal paint scratches even on black. If you choose the touchup paint route, go with a higher-quality paint than the dealer offers and follow it up with a Duplicolor clearcoat pen. If the paint gets a little smudgy after applying use a credit card to smooth it over and wipe the excess off with your fingers. Good luck!
