I use the Kozak cloth on the wheels. I don't trust it on the paint of the car. But you're right, they are very hard to find. I still have 1 new one left from years ago but once I start using it, I will have to start searching for a couple new ones. Looks like the only way to get them is through an online retailer.

it seems to me that the duster will leave streaks if you are trying to dust when the surface is hot. when it's cold it seems to work perfectly

I "inherited" my Cali Duster from my brother. Not sure if he propered primed it for use when he first bought it. What are the instructions again? Your supposed to air dry it outside or inside on newspaper (with the hairs down on the paper or up) for how many days? Wat does this do for the duster and if it has been used for a while, will it help to air dry it no newspaper in its used condition now?

I find the Kozak Dry wash cloth better than the Duster. The Duster leaves streaks

^^^ It doesn't leave streaks if the duster is prepped appropriately and the surface is cool.

Besides the main one I also have a separate small one for my wheels for brake dust only. Everytime I come home I wipe down my wheels with the small duster and I hardly have to clean my wheels. Works great!

Any time you don't have proper lubrication, whether it is ONR, QD, or a duster, you are creating swirls and/or fine scratches on your vehicle.

However, if you MUST use the California Duster, use it correctly. You are only supposed to use the very tip of the duster and barely touch the vehicle as you glide it across the clearcoat.

So:
  1. Use only when vehicle is lightly dusted
  2. Only use the very tip of the duster, barely touching the vehicle.
  3. Gently glide across.

Duster alternatives: zymol wool duster. The swissvax iirc is the same thing as the california duster, but more expensive due to rebranding.

It's been prepared correctly but I still prefer the Kozak.

I am afraid of scratches on my black car, and also, after repeated use, doesn't the dust build up stay inside the duster and will scracth that car despite what the duster manual says.

is there anyway to 'clean' the duster? or do you just throw away and get a new one every so often?
when the duster gets dirty enough that it doesn't pick much up, throw it in the wash as you would any laundry. It will NOT scratch the paint unless you let it get far too dirty and jam it into your paint.

when you first buy it, lay it on a piece of newspaper with the strands all spread out. this lets the paraffin wax cure onto the strands better. Then, if you see anything that looks like a scratch when you first use it or when its clean, buff it off with a little muscle as it should be just a little of the paraffin wax coming off.
