Default paint and wax

After reading this article in Lexus magazine, it got me thinking...I am not taking proper care of my car.

https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lex...-Car-Wash.html

“In big city areas, I’d say wash regularly, on a weekly basis,” says DiDonato. “When you notice that you don’t have the beading, or the rolling of the water off the vehicle, then wax as well. But if you’re using a ph-neutral soap, it may be a few months before you need to reapply the wax.”
What do you guys use to wash your car? Any specific soaps? What do you guys do to wax it? Any specific techniques or brands of wax?

Also I have a couple of chips in the paint on the hood. What can I do to fix that?
