Thanks for the info...around here i bet wal-mart is the only place that will have it, and in my city we tend not to frequent it to much.

strongsail,

Good FYI strongsail.

However, I have tried this on 8 or 9 cars now. I found that if that side bolster is missing some color afterwards, it is only because it was scratched off originally and the dirt covered it up.

That is my experience so far. I have not had an issue where the SoftScrub scratched or took off anything. I would have to say that I am not 'scrubbing' the stuff on either. It isn't necessary to work it in very hard. 2 soft coats is better than one hard scrub in my opinion.

what's the best type of conditioner or what have you, to use after cleaning with the soft scrub? because i imagine the soft scrub does not really make the seats too soft?

dpakman91,

The soft-scrub will make your seats softer because you are adding moisture while removing dirt. To KEEP them soft I use Meguires Leather Conditioner.

The method I found that works the best is....
1. Soft-scrub while rinsing the sponge with a bucket of water.
2. Let Dry and use wet towel to scrub seams because the soft-scrub tends to get stuck in the thread.
3. Let Dry and SOAK the seats with conditioner. Let it air out for a few hours and then re-apply. Finally pick up the excess with a towel.

Sounds good, i think i will give it a shot today...one more question? how long should the whole process take me, from start to finish, including letting things dry, etc.

I make a day of it for cleaning the c**p out of the Lexus.

Start cleaning leather w/soft-scrub - 30mins let dry 30 mins
Wash car in the mean time - 30mins
Detail the leather with a damp towel - 15 mins. let dry 30 mins
Apply coat of wax to car - 30mins
Spray leather down with conditioner. - 10mins
Wipe wax off car - 25mins
Spray down leather again.
Do the tires, and wheels
Wipe excess conditioner off.
clean windows.

DONE
Maybe 3hours or so for everything.

Just wanted to add that this stuff works great on vinal as well. It made my airbag cover look like new. As mentioned before, use some caution and do a little at a time lightly as it does take a little color with it.

mjr24,

Soft scrub is a toilet/bathroom cleanser. NEVER use it on fabrics of any sort. It soaks in and stains it white.

Also, when doing the soft scrub deep cleaning on your leather, be sure to use a bucket of water and sponge to get it all off when you are done.

I would never have thought of this, and it might be the solution I need. My leather is tan, 10 years old, and also has the embedded dirt "cracks" described in the other thread. I worked on it with some Zymol leather cleaner but it doesn't get the deep down stuff out that's been rubbed in by people's butts for 10 years.

So I'll try some of that Soft Scrub (lemon, no bleach). I'll take pics before and after and post them here so people can see how it looks.

My driver's seat has some wear damage on the outer edge, so I don't expect that to change. Might have to go to gahh.com and get it replaced one of these days.

As for vinyl, yesterday I started applying some Mothers Vinyl Protectant and it looks fabulous. Made the center cover of my steering wheel look like new. Took out all the water/chemical stains and restored that slick, new look.

I just got Soft-scrub today and wanna try it this weekend..
One question. so you have to rinse the soft-scrub with water right? or I can just wipe it out with towel or something?

How long do I have to let it sit before rinsing or wiping off.

Thanks

Taka,

Soft-scrub is a detergent and NOTa chemical "apply and wipe off" cleaner. It is made to SCRUB toilets. Not really intended for the purpose that you are going to use it for. Does it work....YES. Is it a fool proof method...NO. It can easily destroy your leather and cloth interior quickly if not careful.

Because it dries WHITE and powdery. You need to get it all off. Not just wipe it clean. I would be really meticulous about the seams. This type of cleaner could easily eat thru the thread over time if allowed to sit on it. So once again, apply, scrub, rinse the sponge, wipe clean, rinse with clean wet sponge, wipe off...etc..

Whatever you do, do not get it on your seat belts or other cloth. It will leave a WHITE spot.
