Default Washing Microfiber

Hey Folks. Do you do anything special to wash microfiber drying towels? I'm getting tired of buying Griotts special microfiber cleaner

One should be using Micro Restore Microfiber Cleaner, which has been made for microfiber towel cleaning.

How much of this detergent are people generally using to wash their towels? Using even double the recommended amounts I was not happy with the cleaning power of the Micro Restore product.

And would love to hear or see links to recommendations for MF washing products for use in a high efficiency front loading machine. I can never find anything specific about that....

Know you shouldn't use 'non-HE' products in an HE machine, so what is stuff like Micro Restore rated for - regular or HE?

i use snappy clean.

it's a citrus cleaner made for pads. works amazingly well on towels as well.

proper autocare sells it. the other vendors don't seem to have it.

1-2oz depending on how many towels you have in there

I never had an issue using Micro Restore in my HE machine Dave. I usually add 2oz for the heavy load since I go through a lot of towels when I detail anything. I've been doing it since I got the machine 1 year ago and it bubbles up just like with normal Tide

If the towel becomes too dirty, it will begin to sometimes streak on you. It is then time to wash your towel with Micro-Restore cleaner. It will also clean and revitalize cotton towels, natural and synthetic chamois too. Please always wash Microfiber products by themselves, the only restriction is to never use any type of fabric softener or bleach product with them. One thing is the towel will treat the fabric softener as if it was dirt and will try to store the tiny particles of the softener in the towel fibers. This will clog up the micro fibers and render the towel ineffective and streak on you or won't do anything for you. Proper cleaning of your towels will make them last longer and provide you with no streaks.

If the streaking gets very bad, then the towels have probably reached their washing limit in terms of the ability to soak up things. In that case, most people boil the towels to remove everything else that normal washing can't remove. They scoop out the oils at the top then dry the towels since they're technically "cleaner" than just washing.

To the OP- Did this the other day- pre-soaked them in dawn for an hour with warm water- Then straight into the wash with Tide then dry in the dryer on low heat and done!

Off topic-

Can you wash sheepskin mitts?

I just rinse the sheepskin mitts and let them airdry. After drying, I take a pet brush to it and check if anything is snagged in there

Been washing my microfibers in the front-loader for years. I wash in hot and rinse in warm water. I use Tide HE and I use white vinegar as a rinse. The MF's clean up well and don't loose their absorbency or softness. I think any HE detergent would do but I'd caution not use a powdered detergent.

I toss them in the dryer and they usually come out like new.

Check out the microfiber care section of our detailing guide for specific instructions. I also recommend washing with the DI Microfiber Micro-Restore Microfiber Detergent Concentrate. It helps preserve the longevity of the towel better than most products I have used. Let me know if you have any questions.
