Default Strange Tire Marks

First...Yeah, it's a Goodyear Integrity. One of four that I drive on. I've got a fifth in the trunk (old joke ).

All four wheels and tires that I drive on exhibit
something I've never seen before. Look at the pic.

Ever since I got my RX with these tires/wheels, I've experienced the phenomenon in the picture. Gray streaks emanating radially from the lip of the alloy wheel.

Notice the streak on the right. It begins at the lead wheel balancing weight. It is more noticeable where there are these weights. The tire/wheel's centrifugal force is slinging something, but what?

I've left the car outside for 24 hr after washing 75°night/95° day, hoping whatever is slinging will evaporate, but nope.

Last wash, I scrubbed the tires and wheels, rinsed forever and did not apply any tire dressing at all. It still occurs. I've tried the jet-spray car wash...Nada.

It's no big deal...Just annoying, especially after washing the car. First time I take it out, these streaks appear on all 4.

Can't get rid of the Integritys as they only have 6.2K on them. They're good enough to keep for a while longer.

So...Anyone seen this? If so, got a fix?

Dude I know what it is. It happens on all new tires. Look closely at your tires. You'll notice and small, thin rubber looking hair sticking out all around the tire. That's what's making the street. With your wheels spinning, dirt and wind catches the hairs and makes a mark. What I did was use a scissor and cut the little hairs. Streaks gone. I hope this helps. =)

Man, I thought crop circles were odd Just forget about the Integrity's. Let 'em do what they will and be glad when you get rid of them. I'm ready for some Cross Terrains or LTX/MS.

BTW, your tire looks very clean in that picture...I thought you did have tire wet on them.

Thanks, Harrier. I'll grab my scissors and head out to the
driveway this weekend to check it out.

Nick,
It's just the flash reflecting off those %$#ing Integritys, and
maybe a little dew. I took the pic at night. I actually got out
of bed, because I was thinking about it, and took the pic.

Here's a couple of pics of what HarrierRX300 described.

They're remnants of the extrusion process. All new tires I've
seen have these "hairs" or nibs all over them, but I've never
seen them cause this problem. You can clearly see the nasty
gray spooge that's slung off of these "hairs."

Fig.A:
Left Arrow - Rubber hair on rim
Right Arrow- Typical rubber nib on sidewall

Fig.B:
Close-up of another hair

Along all my rims, I clipped these hairs off. When it
cools off this evening, I'll wash my tires again and
go for a drive. I'll re-examine the tires then.

I took these with my Sony DSC-F707 digicam...It is the bomb-diggity!

Looks like Harrier's fix is just the ticket.

I scrubbed my tires and went for a 50 mile
joyride. No more gray streaks.

I love my Lex.

No problem. Glad I can help. BTW, make sure you armor all the tires to make them shine. =)

I found that the main culprit was simply too much product applied via a spray bottle. Using an applicator not only can eliminate this problem, but is more economical in the long run.
