Do It Myself lol Thread for Painting the Lex.
This will be updated continually because im not done hahaha
Ok so I dont have many pics before I started sanding but you will see some. Anyway It had lots of scratches in the paint esp the front clip. I did alot of research on google, here ( CL) and personal friends who paint alot and or professionally.

First stage Prep
Sanded the most of the areas that were F*d with 220 grit sandpaper with my palm sander. Yes its a lil coarse but i went gentle on the other areas. Also note that on the areas I went to far on and got down to metal, those areas will have to be primered and then the rest of the scuffing of the paint can continue. And scuffing the paint is going over the entire surface of the car with about 500grit before applying primer base coat.

Im gonna have some pics up in a lil bit. I primered the rf fender and doesnt look bad at all. I think this is something anyone can do with knowledge and practice. I did myold car once and then im gonna keep practicing with the spoiler I have for the gs. Im gonna paint it with the gun and jus pretend its the car and see how the color comes out. Might even do some experimenting.

i would never mess around painting a car, i'll let the professionals do that.[/QUOTE]
And thanks. Im a mechanic by trade but im only good at that because of my attitude to learn to do stuff for myself.

Good luck, thanks for posting up your progress.
Can you list all the materials/primer/paint/sprayer you are using and go into detail on the steps. I was thinking of re spraying my hood since it has so many little rock chips but I am a little nervous.
I had those little white scrapes on the front hood/headlight area of my Honda Accord too, had no idea how they got there but it was most likely a drive through car wash that caused it.

So far I have just gone over the car with 220 grit to prep the surface for primer. Once I finished primer I will go over and wet sand at about 1000 grit then apply paint. For primer im only using rattle can enamel primer from walmart. You will have to do this because the scratches are through the clear coat.

What color are you hoping to end with, BTW?

You're at a point where you should really start removing headlights, taillights, door handles, etc. Typically you would want to start a job by removing these items.
Good luck with the project. Lots of work ahead!
