I had a very dirty driver's side mat in putty (light grey) that was very dirty and had a heavily crushed down spot where heal makes contact that included tar. I was going to buy a new set but decided to paint them. Paint? Yes SEM Color Coat. I removed tar with nalpha, then washed and scrubbed mat and then followed it with a carpet extraction type cleaner. After drying I then vacuumed it throughly. Purchased SEM Light Titanium which matched well. Sprayed with a light coat and brushed mat in all directions with a nylon scrub brush. Applied two more coats in 8-10 drying intervals. Dried them for
24 hours. Brushed again and
vacuumed. Amazing. Look like
new and almost an exact match.
They are not stiff and fell almost
like the unused mats in the rear.
Great product. Easy to use.
Comes in 55 colors and you can
use a darker color to recolor a
light color. In gray alone there
were 15 shades to choose from.
I understand that detailers use
SEM to revive carpet, leather,
plastic and vinyl.

Here is a photo of the mat painted with SEM. Note that the mat was almost brown with many light spots due to scrubbing. The area that is still a bit matted down is where the heal rests under the gas petal. This area was almost flat with caked in dirt and tar. The mat was painted almost 6 months ago and have not been cleaned. The dirt spot on the left is since painting and is wher I rest my left foot. The texture is a bit more stiff than original but not overtly. Process took two coats at five minutes each and a 30 minute dty time between coats.
