Default Wheel prep.

Hopefully this is the right place for this thread. Any advice on if I should put some wax or sealant on new wheels before putting them on. If so any one know any good product?

Thanks

I usually wax new wheels up good...but you know what, it doesn't really last time long.

Do a search or ask in the Automotive Care & Detailing section: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/aut...detailing-122/

There's a number of opinions there regarding wheel wax.

put some opticoat on them including the barrels.
Brake dust will wash off with just a spray from a garden hose...

I wax the wheels every once in a while, I also use Eagle One "Keep Clean Wheel Protector" Whenever it's on sale i buy it, it works pretty well. Makes the brake dust very easy to wash off till my next wash, which is at least once a week now anyways

I never thought of waxing my rims... any reason I cannot/should not use the Zymol wax I use on the car for the rims as well?

no you can put any wax on the rims you want but use something durable (like a sealant or collinite 845, forget carnauba waxes) and only wash with carsoap and water.

If you use wheel cleaners or APCs, then you'll strip the rim and have to reapply.

if you use opticoat, then wheel cleaners or APCs won't strip it. It's like another layer of clear once fully cured.

+1 on the OptiCoat

I am driving 100 miles to have this done to my whole car on Friday. I did this to my GS400 a couple of years ago and it was the best money I ever spent for any sort of "detailing".

I opticoated a family members new BMW a couple months ago and the other day I saw that there was this huge crystally salt deposit and runoff stain right on the hood like the car was saltwater-boarded in guantanamo or something.

I don't know how long it was left that way but I took a hose to that puppy and the salt crust just washed right off, no agitation necessary. Left no trace, etching or anything. OC is the truth

Wheels get hot eventually so you want something durable like everyone listed. I'm using a combination of OptiCoat 2.0 as the base layer for the entire wheel and spraying AA Wheel Protectant as a topper. Seems to work great so far

Thanks everyone for the responses. I am probably going to go with a sealent but first am trying to find out if my rims (the f-sport's) are clear coated or not? Anyone know?

Thanks
