Default Looking for a polish to get surface corrosion off my tips

I’m looking for a product that’s going to get my tips in good condition once again. My car has had the Tanabe Medallion exhaust on for four or five years now. Sadly, the tips don’t look nearly as good as they used to.

Not only are they in dire need of a polishing, but they have some small surface corrosion on them. I’ve used various polishing compounds on my other cars, but I’m looking for one that will get the corrosion off as well.

If the tips were chrome, this job would be simple, but since they are polished, I don’t want anything too abrasive which will cause me more headaches in the long run. What would you guys recommend?

0000 grade steel wool and your favorite metal polish (I like Autosol). Use as much as you need to gain back that shine

Hmmmm. I've used steel wool on chrome before, but never on a polished surface. Wont it leave it hazy or with swirls?

If by corroded you mean hazy, not rotting ha. I'd also suggest a steel polish compound and a powerball. Works GREAT!

Just throwing it out there as another way

I'm thinking corrosion wasn't the correct word to use lol. Mag-chloride is used on the roads in Colorado in the winter. It leaves brown speckles on chrome & polished parts if it isn't removed quickly. So no, they definitely aren't rotting lol.

You had luck w/ steel wool too, so it looks like I'll go that route. I just now need to pick a polish to use.

Do it right and it wont. Just gotta have patience as well as ingenuity when going at it. I do that combo then follow up by foam pads and metal polish

Unfortunately no, I picked mine up from Hong Kong haha. You can just use normal metal polish like the ones Meguiars sells. That usually has steel wool mixed into it. I just prefer to make my own polishing kits thats all

P21S Finish Restorer – for any metal with or without a clear coat that is faded, oxidized, water marked, burnt, and dirty or has a build-up of brake dust and removes hard to see contamination.

For really tough stains apply the polish and a white
Scotch-Brite™ pad
