Default Paint revivial with Meguair 105 / 205 CCS Orange / Blue removing heavy swirl

I've always been a detailing fanatic.
Recently i picked up a 1995 black Lexus LS400. The car being black is easily the worse color when it comes to visible swirls and paint scratches.
the car was well taken care of by the last owner but it could have been better.

So i went ahead to order bottle of Meguair 105 and 205 with Chemical guys Orange & Blue Pads
Along with my porter cable DA and off we go!

so the paint started life with very heavy swirls and scratches.

I started with the CCS Orange pad which is more aggressive with the 105 compound.
I soaked the pad and worked the compound well into the pad surface and did 3 passes with my DA at 5.

after 2 passes i switch to blue pad (less aggressive) w/ 205 compound and did 2 more passes.

results

i tapped of the center of the hood to try to show the before and after.

i'll post up more picture when the car is completely finished.

Nice job... Blue pad is less aggressive correct? almost like a finishing pad? Awesome work...

yes blue is a finishing pad. i read alot people use white pad but i think blue give it a better finish.

I think black is good also... I've always finished by hand with wax etc not a buffer... I will try your combo... I have a PC though

Nice work.

The absolute best combo I have found for onyx black after compounding with a medium polish like SIP is to follow up with PO85RD on either a black or blue finishing pad. 205 is alright, but it never finishes the 202 black perfectly swirl free. If you take an LED torch to the paint you will see very small swirls still in the paint. A halogen light might give the impression that it's perfect, but with an LED it shows otherwise. Highly recommend the 85rd, awesome product all around for finishing these soft paints.

After attending the Advanced class offered by Meguiar's last week i got a new motivation to get my car detailed top to bottom.
I attended the beginner 101 class back in 2005-2006. Back then the products line and techniques were very different than now.
after attending the advanced class i picked up on some new technique to add to my detailing lineup!

I just purchased a 1995 Lexus LS400 Black - Non metallic. Which is the worst color when it comes to scratches / swirls / holograms.
The last owner kept the car relatively clean but the paint was horrible.
the car was riddled with fine line scratches and swirls.

so after the advanced class i picked up a 6" meguiars microfiber correction system and my porter cable / meguiars 7335 DA i got to work.

after 2 pass each of compound + 2 pass of finishing the results!!!

much better... the initial 205 on the blue wasn't cutting it enough to remove the rest of the swirls... i have to get off my @$$ and detail/seal the car before winter comes...

Just a FWIW... I've had astonishingly great results using the Meguiar's MF pads with 105/205. Just remarkable how fast and flawless the finish turns out. I only detail newer vehicles, mostly just Lexus and Infinity but also a few Caddies. That paint loves this package.

Hey Margie,

Out of curiosity, what were the products you used? Also, did you notice any light discoloration on your hood prior to this treatment? It could always be oxidation coming up, products not working together correctly, or improper use. Any info would help us diagnose your issue. Thanks

I've have good experience with the 3M perfect kit on a black car. I'm about to use it again sometime this week when I wet sand and cut and polish on this fresh paint I laid down Friday.

Thanks for showing those pictures of this glass, I'll definitely has to get around to doing mine now after seeing these results. A body shop I went to a few years ago scratched up my drivers window pretty bad, Go figure.
