Default Wheel Sealant/Wax

Hey, I was just wondering what kind of wax or sealant you guys use on your cars' rims, I'm just applying them on some stock 18".

Also, I have stains on the wheels, its kind of brownish and it wont come off with any scrubbing... I may have scratched through the protecting coat on them with a wheel brush before. Should I try to apply some polish to try to get it out or would it be a bad idea/make it worse?

thanks.

I've opticoated my wheels two months ago and will be looking at how well that lasts.

Sounds like polish should remove the stains.

I should probably use proper wheel polish other than paint polish then right? haha. by the way do you know the best way to remove tar bits on exhausts without causing scratches/using steel wool?

For the wheels, I have started using sonax wheel cleaner. It worked better than I expected. A light scrub was all that was needed. If the wheel surface is damaged, I'm not sure if this can be used though. (their product page states "SONAX Wheel Cleaner's acid-free, non-corrosive formula is safe on all types of painted, alloy, anodized, clear coated, chrome, aluminum and stainless steel wheels" but if the surface is damaged, I don't know if it is safe. In that case, polish might be safer - maybe opticoat it after cleaning it.

For the tar (and bugs), I use Tarminator (by stoner) - note that this will remove wax/sealant as well, so you will need to reapply that.
I haven't seen tar on exhausts on my car yet - only in the area right behind the front tires (under the doors).

Stock wheels are clear coated anyway. Why buy specific goods for specific purposes if you can knock them all out with one

I found tar removal on exhaust can be done with a polish. I prefer Meguiars M105 by hand. Doesn't do any damage to my eyes

To the OP, just clean them with a safe product for rims and then use a clay bar ( don't reuse ) and seal them with Optimum Opti-Seal on them once every month and your set.
