Default No more wax or sealant ahead???

This in today's news... looks like us detailers and OCD folks may be looking for another pastime soon.

According to the article, we have about 8 years to get ready for this.

Looks promising.

I hope it's not going to end up a BIG joke like Infiniti's "self healing" paint that promised to cure and "heal" minor-average swirls and scratches all on its own. Too bad it doesn't work in real life, only makes it a pain in the *** to polish the car because the paint is so soft and finicky.

Not sure how I feel about this. Doesn't seem feasible with current knowledge I have on "future" coatings...

The first generation of the R35 Nissan GTR has this type of paint but went back to the traditional paint due detailer having problems with the self healing paint jobs.

Any more info on that? How'd you hear about this? For some reason, I had a feeling Nissan was involved here lol.

Would be interesting to see but I wouldn't bet the house that wax and sealants are going away.

It was something along the lines that the buffing with rotary or PC at higher speeds would cause the paint to swell and appear corrected but once it cooled and contracted, it was back to normal. The method found to work most efficiently was low speeds for both machines since heavy friction was not desirable for the paints affected. I fortunately didn't have that issue with the GTR that I worked on thankfully
