I think rain-x does an excellent job.
If it is raining, then how does it leave a film. Wouldn't the water wash away any film? Hopefully you didn't apply it to the inside.

I use P21S Windshield Wash Booster.
Try this with a rain-X application next time the car needs a wash:
1. Wash the window(s) you wish to Rain-X with any glass cleaner.
2. Apply Rain-X liberally to the glass.
3. Allow it to dry for 30 minutes. Drink a beer.
4. Wash your car as you normally do. While washing the car, wash the Rain-X windows with your wash mitt or whatever you are using. Wash the glass just like any other part of your car.
When rinsing, there will be no haze or streaks on your glass and the Rain-X will be left to do what it's suposed to do.

SW, I'm with you, but I admit that I never used Daddy-O's method, just did the front like I did the sides and back. My problem was more that I rapidly would develop streaking when using the wipers (about 15' total wiper time was all it took).
So for years I would do the sides and back but never the front. Now I've got PIAA SuperSilicone wipers and the installation includes pre-treatment of the glass with what is very obviously some sort of glass wax similar to RainX, and I've had no problems at all. But I'm willing to bet Daddy-O's method works, too (insert sucking up sound here).

My Dad was a Rain-X freak. I never cared for it too much.
He would apply it to side windows of his ElDo, and if you cracked the window when it rained, the lack of friction would allow the rain to slide along that long window glass and into the backseat.

I usually do the front and rear window but do all of them for the winter. Although I have a garage it helps if you have to scrape snow and ice off your car.
Other tip, I put Rain X on my headlights.
Helps prevent the bugs from sticking to them like super glue and also helps repell some dirt.

I can honestly say I've never had those problems with it. It's been a good product for me. I hear many prefer Aquapel over Rain X, but I've just never tried it since Rain X has always pleased my customers and I.

My brother uses Aquapel in his 2003 Altima, and he says it lasts a long time (6 months to a year), and he seldomly uses the wipers on any given rainy day.
My personal preference when treating window glass is to delicately apply Meguiar's carnauba wax to the front/rear windshields and windows once a month. Produces no streaking problems whatsoever, and water beads off nicely in every rainfall

Just try a car wax. Thats what I use. I work at a Volvo Dealership and i usually detail my car every other week or so. We just use a LIGHT wax on all of the windows. It works just as good as Rain-X, and it saves you the time and money of purchasing Rain-X. The product we use is called Viper or Pro-Shine. Its not a heavy compound wax that you would have to use a high speed buffer to get it off, or very light like a spray wax. Its right inbetween. Its heavy enough that you have to use a microfiber cloth to get the haze off. (I dont know what wax is comparable to it in stores since I have free access to the detail shop at work.)

I think Rain-X is great stuff...I used it on my Camry for years. I thought Lexus already used some kind of treatment on the windshield from the factory? That's why I haven't used it yet.
