Apologies in advance if this has been covered...... scrolled through several pages for topic and did a search with no reasonable match.

Just purchased a bottle of OEM touch-up paint for an extremely thin but deep scratch. Very atypical of door-dings as this is slightly curved with absolutely no sign of impact or foreign paint. Car color is Deep Sea Mica with a white background (primer?) at the site.

The OEM bottle has both brush and ball-point applicator. The latter is obviously best suited; how effective and unobtrusive is this fix? Parts manager looked at the scratch and advised very minor application to start, and this after practice on a piece of cardboard.

So first thing I would say is do not expect perfection. Touch up pens are great for filling in deep scratches and chips to prevent rust and to help hide the defect, however they will rarely be a seamless repair.

I would also say practice a few strokes on a scrap piece of paper or cardboard so you can get the idea of how much paint is released from the tip with various pressure. You do not want to over fill the scratch, but slowly fill it until it is near flush with the original surface.

Thanks for the reply and advice! No doubt this is the first of many inevitable blemishes, but it occurred less than a week since new!
