Sealant Or wax?
Did our vehicles come from the dealer sealed and treated? or did we just get a washed new car? I am new to caring for a brand new paint job and need some advice on the proper procedures.
Questions...
Can I wash, dry, and wax car. Then use a sealant?
Or
Wash, Dry, and just use a sealant.
WHats the best sealant?
Im about to use Meguiars White Wax
Thank guys

They are suppose to wash and detail the car but I thought the same thing when I got my car as it looked like they just washed it. You should do it yourself though. There are better products but they are expensive there is the opti-coat 2.0 which is a life time sealant and should be your best choice.

I don't think they provide sealant; well at least the Hawaii dealers do not. It's about a $600-$800 option here. I made the mistake of buying it (Xzilon) from the dealer when I got my STi but with my GF's IS, I mentioned she should just take it to a good 3rd party detailer and have a sealant applied there since it's much cheaper. She ended up paying only $150 for a wash/sealant. Don't get me wrong, I've been happy with Xzilon especially since it has a 5-year warranty but it's quite a hassle to get any warranty work done on it so I'm thinking of just going with the 3rd party from now on. Also regarding sealants, I really like them, tar and bird crap come right off. Some people don't think the paint has that deep luster look but I'm not a car show type of guy and after 3 years of no waxing/polishing I think my paint looks great.

if youre not sure and want to wax/seal yourself, you can get the stronger car wash shampoos that will cleanse the paint. But after you apply wax/sealant you want to use a shampoo that is safe for wax/sealant
sealant is the same thing as wax but lasts twice as long since its synthetic

I do road trips almost every weekend since I got my car, each road trip easily puts 250-300 miles on it.

I know I am being picky... but a sealant is not the same as a coating. Opti-Coat 2.0 (and other products like 22ple and CQuartz) are coatings.
More information about coatings, synthetic sealants, and wax can be found in this thread I wrote:

Thanks for the post. Im going to do the 2 bucket method with a good shampoo and sealant ( probably one a month or once every 2 months). Any sealants people would recommended with a reasonable price?
