Default 1998 Black Lexus GS

does the 1998 black Lexus GS have clearcoat?

someone told me that it does and someonelse said that it does not, that clearcoat started in 1999.

I think this topic was argued in a past post, to the conclusion that it does not have clearcoat.

It's easy enough to find out. Take a white cotton towel, and rub some swirl remover or cleaner-wax on the car. If you see black paint on the rag=no clear. If it's just slightly dirty but not black=clear.

Lightbulb Neither Does the 1999

Ted - My 1999 GS4 doesn't have a clear coat so maybe Lexus started in 2000? Guitar's method works well but I wet sanded the stock side skirts once I had them off ( replaced by a set of L-Sportline skirts ) just to verify things. Didn't take me long to get a milky residue which was the clear coat being sanded off so I'm sure that the rest of the car's NOT cleared as well.
