Default Lug Nut bores-how to clean?

The lug nut bores in the wheel are nto chrome, and are filthy! salt etching etc. I was thinking of using a shotgun bore brush to polish them out. Then use some kind of wheel wax sealant inside to keep them fresh looking.
IS shotgun brush a good tool to use on these?

If the area is severely etched/pitted, it may be too late to save.

Pictures would help!

I would recommend something like this for cleaning lug nut areas and other small wheel details like rivets.

ATLASTA Soft Tip Brush - Great for cleaning lug nut areas and other tight spots.
